We have a dedicated joinery workshop in Kent meaning we can supply and work with almost any type of wood you wish used, while most base boards are build using ply, we are happy to discuss different options to suit all budgets.
Given the money time and attention you have put into your model railway collection, then it goes without saying that you’ll want it to be modelled around a theme and in a way that’s accessible.
Our workshop is based near Ashford in Kent; however, we can create and supply a bespoke base board and supply this anywhere within the UK.
Dependant on scale and use, we can manufacture baseboards from different thickness material to suit.
Generally, we use 12mm Birch ply for the main framework, however we can use 18mm Birch ply for the perimeter if the boards are to be for a larger, heavier railway gauge.
Also you may wish to have a thicker perimeter if the boards are to be exhibited on a regular basis, therefore will often be transported around.
Equally you may wish to have ultra-light boards where we would install 6mm ply intermediate struts.
Baseboard tops sit in a rebate around the perimeter to protect the edges.
Tops can be 6mm, 9mm 0r 12mm moisture resistant MDF or Birch ply.
We can manufacture timber legs of any height required; these are fitted with adjustable feet; legs can be loose or hinged and would be supplied with braces.
If you wish we can supply all components or just the baseboards and we can price to assemble in your loft, shed or garage ready for you to start planning your track.
Phoenix Joinery are a family run joiners, meaning we can keep an eye on the quality of the finished article delivering great quality.
We have worked on many base boards for out clients over the years and now with our new website in place we will be looking to add examples of our work in a gallery which you can see below.
In fact we would love to not only give examples of the work we do but also the baseboard in situ once you have added your model railway setup to it, so please do send us images you have of the finished project, would really love to show how out boards were used.
The base boards can also be made for other types of modelling and sets, such as Scalextric sets, Model layouts in fact pretty much anything you have in mind.
